Lesson 3
SCRIPTURES: Matt.23: 33, Num.32: 23, Heb.12: 1, John.8: 34, Ps.51: 7, Matt.14: 28-31
YOUR THOUGHTS: What is sin?
What does the verse “Your sin will find you out” mean?
What does Ps.51: 7 mean to you?
MY THOUGHTS: I’m going to start this lesson with a story, actually it’s more like a dream. No, it’s a nightmare with a happy ending. I am not trying to scare you. I could not think of another way of illustrating the impact that sin has on us. Without further do, “welcome to my nightmare”.
I’ve got to run! I’ve got to run! They are closing down on me. I’ve got to get out of here. Why
am I in this predicament? Oh no I can’t see. It’s so dark. This darkness is too much for me. Where do
I run? Where do I go? Sin is overcoming me. The Truth was there but I lost my grip on it. The pleasures of this world are so attractive to my senses. I feel good, but only for a little while. I’m falling into a pool of fresh water without an outlet. The water has nowhere to go, its starting to get stagnate. The dark dirty water is impairing my vision. I cannot see the light above me. I’ve got to get out of here. Lord are you here? I heard from a friend that you gave your only Son to die for me. He also told me that You are the Way, the Truth and the Life. (John.14: 6). I want to surrender my life to you Lord. I cannot live without you. Jesus will you be my Lord and Savior?
I can see the Light above me, but I can’t get to it. I’ll wait for you Lord. Suddenly a hand comes through the barrier that is between the Light and me. The palm on this hand has a hole in it. I grab that hand, knowing that it is the hand of my Lord Jesus. He pulls me out of that pool of sin and embraces me in His ever-loving arms.
In the beginning of this lesson, I mentioned that this dream was to illustrate the impact sin or temptation has on us. The point I’m trying to bring across is that we do not have to run from sin if we are running toward Jesus. Remember what John the Baptist said when he saw Jesus walking up to him, “ Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world”(John.1: 29). Taketh can also mean beareth, and that’s indeed what Jesus did when He hung on the cross. He bore all our sins on His shoulders so that we can be free. So lets pick up the cross and follow Jesus. You can’t go wrong.
