In Tribute to Domenic DiRosa
Dom DiRosa was born in Trenton, NJ, on December 4, 1933. He has a brother, Nicholas, and 2 sisters - Elizabeth and Jean. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Shirley and Dom shared a happy marriage for many years. Shirley and Dom have 3 sons - Donald, Paul, and Robert. They have 6 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter.
Dom visited our church in 1992 to see his granddaughters - Julie and Jamie - take part in a cantata. He liked what he saw and became a regular in our services. He accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior. On September 12, 1993, he became a member of our church. As his Pastor for several years I can tell you that he was a good member.
Three years ago Dom and Shirley moved to Clearwater, FL, to enjoy their retirement. They searched till they found the Church of God in Disston, where they got involved. Their Pastor in Florida was Ray Parker. Pastor Parker was a real blessing to the DiRosa family during Dom's surgery and sickness.
Dom was an avid baseball fan. He was a big Phillies fan. He and Shirley were able to attend a lot of the Phillies spring training games the past couple of years. He was really looking forward to seeing Mike Schmidt at the Phillies spring this year but God had better things for Dom. He has seen Jesus Christ face to face.
Dom was an avid fan of our church softball team, on which his son, Robert, played. I can still see Dom and Shirley sitting behind the bench cheering for the Church of God blue and gray. He got excited when Robert hit a home run. We missed them the past couple of years but they always attended the games when they were here for a visit.
Dom loved to hear his son, Paul, sing in the church. Although Dom was the quiet sort you could see him beam as Paul sang. He really loved his church brothers and sisters.
Dom left a great example for his family and friends to observe and follow. He faced cancer and death with courage and confidence. His statement about his impending death was this, "If God wants me I am ready to go." He was conscious until the last few minutes of his life on earth. God decided it was time to call Dom home in the wee hours of Sunday morning, February 17th.
Dom crossed the finish line successfully. He had the escort of angels as he left earth and journeyed to Heaven. He has joined the great cloud of witnesses that is cheering the Christians homeward. Another member of the Levittown Church of God made it home.
Dom DiRosa, you were loved in life and you will be missed in death. Shirley will have some tough days. Your sons and their families will shed some tears. Your brother and sisters will miss you. All of us will miss you BUT we shall meet you in Heaven some day. Thanks for accepting Jesus and giving us the hope of seeing you again.
